“Carreras de galgos en los campos del sur de Chile”
Las carreras de galgos son eventos comunes en los campos del sur de Chile. En una pista recta, que mide entre 200 y 250 metros de largo, dos o más perros persiguen lo que alguna vez fue una liebre viva. Hoy es una bolsa atada a un hilo arrastrada por una especie de “tirador”, una máquina construida con restos de una bicicleta que se ubica al otro extremo de la pista, detrás de la meta. Los criadores de galgos llegan de diferentes sectores rurales para participar en las competencias que reúnen a cientos de personas. En Chile no hay ninguna ley que prohíba las carreras, como sí ocurre en otros países. Los galgueros pretenden legalizar estas competencias, mientras que grupos de animalistas realizan campañas para prohibirlas.
“Greyhound racing in the rural countryside of southern Chile”
The greyhound racing is a common event in the rural countryside of southern Chile. In a straight track measuring between 200 and 250 meters long, two or more dogs chase what once used to be a live hare. Nowadays, it is a bag tied to a rope and pulled by a kind of “handle”, a machine built with bike parts located at the other end of the track, behind the finish line. The greyhound owners come from different rural areas to participate in the competitions that bring together hundreds of people. In Chile, there is no law banning the racing as is the case in other countries. The greyhound owners intend to legalize these competitions, while animal rights groups conduct campaigns to ban them.

He is the winner of the Photography and Human Rights Award 2013 and was awarded the first place in the Portrait report category in FotoPrensa 2016 with the Retratos de la Memoria project. In 2017, he was awarded the 2nd place in the Sports-Series category in the prestigious documentary photography contest Picture of The Year (POY Latam).
