“Carnaval Con la Fuerza del Sol”

El Carnaval Internacional Andino con la Fuerza del Sol Inti Ch’amampi es una fiesta que se realiza cada año en la ciudad de Arica, durante tres días entre enero y febrero. Es el carnaval más grande del país y uno de los más importantes de Sudamérica. Participan cerca de 70 comparsas, con más de 16.000 músicos y bailarines (Caporales, Morenadas, Tinkus, Tobas, Pueblos, Tarqueadas, Danzas Livianas, entre otros). El desfile cubre más de 2 kilómetros de circuito, en la zona patrimonial de la ciudad, y miles de personas de todo el mundo acuden para disfrutar de un espectáculo lleno de tradiciones, música y colores. El carnaval nace producto de la fusión de dos grandes pasacalles, organizados por la Confraternidad de Bailes Andinos de Arica y la Federación de las Artes Indígenas Kimsa Suyu, cuyo afán es reivindicar el protagonismo de la cultura andina mediante danzas originarias del altiplano peruano-boliviano, de las comunidades afrodescendientes y las del interior de la Región de Arica y Parinacota.

“Carnival with the Strength of the Sun”

The Andean International Carnival, Inti Ch’amampi, with the Strength of the Sun, is a festival performed every year in the city of Arica, during three days between January and February.  It’s the biggest carnival of the country and one of the most important carnivals in South America. About 70 troupes participate including more than 16,000 musicians and dancers (Caporales, Morenadas, Tinkus, Tobas, Pueblos, Tarqueadas, and Light Dances, among others).  The parade covers more than 2 kilometers of circuit, in the heritage zone of the city, and thousands of people from all over the world go to enjoy a spectacle full of traditions, music and colors.  The carnival is the result of the merger of two big parades organized by the Fellowship of Andean Dances in Arica and the Federation of Indigenous Arts Kimsa Suyu, aimed at asserting the relevance of the Andean culture through indigenous dances from the Peruvian-Bolivian highlands, the afro-descendant communities and communities from within the Region of Arica and Parinacota.
