“Haitianos en Chile”

Luego del devastador terremoto que azotó a Haití el año 2010, parte importante de sus habitantes comenzó a ver a Chile como posible destino en donde probar suerte. Según datos de la Policía de Investigaciones de Chile (PDI), la cifra de inmigrantes experimentó un explosivo aumento durante el 2017, siendo más de 100.000 haitianos los que ingresaron a nuestro país. Sin embargo, para la mayoría de ellos, el sueño por una mejor calidad de vida se ve estropeado. Sortear la barrera lingüística se convierte muchas veces en una tarea complicada y casi imposible, el abuso laboral acompañado de salarios que rondan el sueldo mínimo por trabajos en la construcción, aseo o labores informales es cada día más habitual, así como las dificultades en el acceso a la educación y la salud.

After the devastating earthquake that rocked Haiti in 2010, a large number of its inhabitants began to see Chile as a possible place to try their luck. According to Investigative Police of Chile (PDI) records, the number of immigrants increased tremendously during 2017, with over 100,000 Haitians having immigrated to Chile. Nevertheless, for the majority of them, the dream of a better quality of life is dashed to pieces. Dealing with the language barrier often becomes a difficult and almost impossible task, abusive labor conditions together with salaries near minimum wage for work in construction, cleaning, or other informal jobs is more and more common, in addition to problems in access to education and health services.

Lòt difikilte se abi nan travay yo, yo peye yo mwens kòb, nan travay tankou konstriksyon, netwayaj, ak lòt travay san kontra. Lòt difikilte sèke kèk nan yo pa ka gen aksè pou edikasyon ak lasante.

Fotógrafo documental independiente con especial interés en asuntos sociales. Es cofundador de Buen Lugar Ediciones. Desde 2014 hasta mediados del 2016, forma parte del Mentor Program de la agencia VII. Ha sido galardonado con varios premios, residencias y becas de diferentes organizaciones como POY Latam (Mejor libro del año), MAST Foundation for Photography Grant (Italia), Open Society Foundations (EE.UU.), Photographic Museum of Humanity, FotoVisura (EE.UU.), PhotoESPAÑA, ENS (Colombia), Consejo Nacional de la Cultura y las Artes (Chile), Images Singulières Festival (Francia), Querétaro Photofest (México), FIFV (Chile), Premio Rodrigo Rojas Denegri (Chile) y ganador de la foto del año en FotoPrensa 2017. 

Independent documentary photographer with a special interest in social issues. He is co-founder of the publisher Buen Lugar Ediciones. From 2014 to mid-2016, he was a member of the Mentor Program of the agency VII. Winner of several awards, residencies and scholarships from different organizations such as POY Latam (Book of the Year), MAST Foundation for Photography Grant (Italy), Open Society Foundations (USA), Photographic Museum of Humanity, FotoVisura (USA), PhotoESPAÑA, ENS (Colombia), National Council on Culture and the Arts (Chile), Images Singulières Festival (France), Querétaro Photofest (Mexico), FIFV (Chile), Rodrigo Rojas Denegri Award (Chile) and 2017 FotoPrensa Photo of the Year.
