“La vida reducida a 8 meses de lucha contra el cáncer de mama”

Según cifras oficiales, el cáncer de mama es el que causa la mayor cantidad de muertes por cáncer en mujeres chilenas. Cada día fallecen en nuestro país 3 mujeres por esta enfermedad. El riesgo de cáncer aumenta con la edad y en Chile, aproximadamente 7 de cada 10 nuevos cánceres de mama se diagnostican en mujeres mayores 50 años. Javiera Campos Meneses, de veintiocho años, madre, estudiante y trabajadora, estuvo durante 8 meses en tratamiento de quimioterapia para reducir un tumor alojado en su seno izquierdo que fue extraído a través de una mastectomía. Actualmente, Javiera estudia Derecho en la Universidad de Chile.

“Life reduced to 8 months of fight against breast cancer”

According to the official figures, breast cancer causes the highest number of deaths from cancer in Chilean women.  Every day, 3 women die from this disease in our country.  The cancer risk increases with the age and in Chile around 7 out of every 10 new breast cancers are diagnosed in women older than 50.  Javiera Campos Meneses, twenty eight years old, mother, student and worker, was in a chemotherapy treatment for 8 months to reduce a tumor located in her left breast extracted through a mastectomy.  Nowadays, Javiera studies Law in Universidad de Chile.

Estudia fotografía profesional en el Instituto Profesional Arcos. Fue galardonado con el 1° lugar en la categoría Personaje y 1° lugar en la categoría Naturaleza, Ciencia y Medio Ambiente en modo reportaje, en FotoPrensa 2017. Actualmente trabaja como colaborador en el diario El Mercurio. 

He studied professional photography in the Professional Institute Arcos.  He was awarded the 1^st place in the People category and the 1^st place in the Nature, Science and the Environment report category in FotoPrensa 2017.  He is currently working as a collaborator for El Mercurio newspaper.
