“Morir como haitiano en Chile”

09 de noviembre 2017 | En los últimos años, 44 haitianos han pasado por el Servicio Médico Legal de Santiago. Son los muertos pobres de una de las migraciones más masivas y explosivas del ultimo tiempo en Latinoamérica. Historias dolorosas, cruzadas por el drama de fallecer a más de 6 mil kilómetros de distancia de su propia tierra.

Lourdiana falleció en noviembre de 2017 mientras paría a su hija, quien también murió en el Hospital San Borja Arriarán de Santiago. El día de su velorio, familiares tomaron fotografías, grabaron videos y transmitieron por streaming las imágenes del cadáver para enviárselas a sus parientes en Haití́.

“Die like a Haitian in Chile”

November 9, 2017 | In the last few years, the bodies of 44 Haitians have arrived at the public morgue, known as the Servicio Médico Legal of Santiago. They are the dying poor of one of the largest and most explosive migrations of late in Latin America. Sad stories, cursed by the drama of dying over 6,000 kilometers (3,728 miles) from home.

Lourdiana passed away in November 2017 while giving birth to her daughter, who also died at Hospital San Borja Arriarán of Santiago. On the day of her wake, family members took pictures, made videos and streamed images of the cadaver to send them to her family in Haiti.

Fotógrafo documental con especial interés en temas sociales y de territorio. Cofundador de Buen Lugar Ediciones. Desde el año 2006 hasta el 2018 es editor de fotografía del diario The Clinic. Además, es fotógrafo para la Agencia Felicidad y colaborador de múltiples medios internacionales y chilenos. Ha sido galardonado con diversos premios y residencias por múltiples organizaciones, como el Consejo de la Cultura y las Artes (premio Rodrigo Rojas de Negri al fotógrafo del año), 2do y 3er lugar en Picture of The Year Latinoamérica 2015-2013 (POY Latam), ganador del premio Festival Internacional de Fotografía en Valparaíso (FIFV), FotoVisura Grant (USA), 1er y 2do lugar Premio Latinoamericano de Fotografía, Residencia FIFV con Francoise Hebel, Fotografía del año Photofest Querétaro México, 2do lugar ensayo documental Photofest Querétaro México y 25 veces ganador en el Salón Nacional de Fotografía de Prensa en Chile, incluyendo la fotografía del año el 2010.

Documentary photographer with special interest in social issues and territory. Co-founder of Buen Lugar Ediciones. Since 2006, he has worked as photo editor for the newspaper The Clinic. Plus, he is photographer for Agencia Felicidad and collaborator on numerous national and international media. He has won various prizes and residencies from several organizations such as the Council for Culture and the Arts (Rodrigo Rojas de Negri Award for Photo of the Year); 2nd and 3rd Place for Latin American Picture of The Year 2015-2013 (POY Latam); winner of the International Festival Photography Festival in Valparaiso (FIFV); FotoVisura Grant (USA); 1st and 2nd Place prizes in the Latin American Photography Contest; FIFV Residency with Francoise Hebel; Photo of the Year at Photofest Querétaro Mexico; 2nd Place for documentary essay at Photofest Querétaro Mexico and 25-time winner at the National Press Photography Exhibition in Chile, including the 2010 Photo of the Year.
